St. Thomas More

“Blessed Thomas More is more important at this moment than at any moment since his death, even perhaps the great moment of his dying; but he is not quite so important as he will be in about a hundred years’ time.” So wrote famous English essayist and Catholic convert G.K. Chesterton in 1929. On this episode of Faith & Politics, host Chris Motz is joined by Prof. Gerard Wegemer, one of the world’s foremost experts on St. Thomas More, whose feast day the Church celebrates June 22. Prof. Wegemer recently oversaw the publication of “The Essential Works of Thomas More,” a complete compilation of St. Thomas’s writings. We discuss More’s life of public service, family life, and life of prayer — a life which came to an end at the hand’s of King Henry VIII, as St. Thomas refused to agree with the King’s assertion of total power over the Church.
